This 13 Night / 14 Day cross-country adventure immerses you in the natural beauty of Costa Rica as you explore different terrains from calm tropical beaches to rainforest covered volcanos. Explore the turtle nesting grounds of Tortuguero, get off-the-beaten-path among the rich biodiversity of plants and animals in the northern lowlands of Boca Tapadas. With overnights at the iconic Arenal Volcano and the serene Monteverde cloud forest you will experience all of the natural highlights that Costa Rica is famous for.

Day 1: Arrival to San José

Day Itinerary
Arrival in San José. Private ground transfer Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) to San José Hotel. Free time for sightseeing or nightlife.

Day 2: San José - Puerto Viejo de Limón

Day Itinerary
Don’t waste a minute of your precious vacation. Go white water rafting on the amazing, pristine Río Pacuare on your way to Costa Rica’s beautiful Caribbean coast and Puerto Viejo. Puerto Viejo has maintained its small-town Caribbean atmosphere and rustic local vibe. (B, L)

Day 3: Puerto Viejo de Limón

Day Itinerary
Free day to explore and enjoy the amazing palm-tree lined Caribbean Coast. Take a bike ride and spend your time beach hopping down to Manzanillo Park, visit the Sloth Refuge or take a tour to learn about local chocolate production. If watersports are your thing, you can surf the waves at Salsa Brava, go sea kayaking or snorkel in the turquoise water at Cahuita National Park. (B)

Day 4: Puerto Viejo de Limón -Tortuguero

Day Itinerary
Head north up the coastline drive through the Caribbean coast Banana Plantations before your boat ride into “The Amazon of Costa Rica” — Tortuguero. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Tortuguero

Day Itinerary
Guided boat tour of Tortuguero Canals and free afternoon for hiking & exploration. Enjoy being surrounded by tropical gardens and wildlife right in front of Tortuguero’s waterways. Howler monkeys, spider monkeys, sloths, toucans, manakins and trogons are all frequent visitors to the property. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Tortuguero - Boca Tapada

Day Itinerary
Leave Tortuguero’s jungle waterways and head to Boca Tapada for an amazing birdwatching experience in the tropical rainforest. You will pick up your rental car after lunch and begin your self-drive portion of the trip as you make your way to Boca Tapada. Night life exploration with a naturalist guide. (B, L)

Day 7: Boca Tapada

Day Itinerary
Boca Tapada is an amazing birdwatching mecca. Search for Green and Scarlet Macaws, Toucans, Tanagers and many more species. After breakfast depart on a tropical rainforest guided 2 – 2.5-hour hike through the property’s onsite rainforest trails. (B)

Day 8: Boca Tapada - Arenal Volcano (La Fortuna)

Day Itinerary
Leave Boca Tapada and head to Arenal for an amazing volcano and rainforest experience. You will self-drive your way through the agriculturally rich Northern lowlands towards the iconic Arenal Volcano. (B)

Day 9: Arenal Volcano (La Fortuna)

Day Itinerary
Majestic Arenal Volcano sits in the heart of the rainforest and is surrounded with tropical flowers, birds, sloths, monkeys and toucans. If skies are clear, you can enjoy spectacular views from almost anywhere in La Fortuna. Today you will have your choice of adventures. Choose between the Canopy Zip Line tour or a Volcano hike with Naturalist guide. (B)

Day 10: Arenal Volcano - Monteverde Cloud Forest

Day Itinerary
Leave the rainforest and Arenal Volcano behind as you venture around the Lake Arenal and head up in elevation to the Monteverde cloud forest and the quaint, Quaker village of Santa Elena. Once you arrive in the afternoon, you will visit a Coffee Plantation and learn about the importance of coffee and the golden bean to the country and region, plus the way it is grown, harvested and roasted before sampling some of Costa Rica’s delicious brew and one of its most important exported goods. Day 11: Monteverde Cloud Forest

Day Itinerary
Enjoy exploring and breathing in the fresh air of the cloud forest and the quaint, Quaker village Monteverde and Santa Elena. Today you will go on a cloud forest combo tour that includes a Hanging Bridges walk, Butterflies and Hummingbirds! (B)

Day 12: Monteverde Cloud Forest – Manuel Antonio

Day Itinerary
Depart from the cool, quiet of the cloud forest and head to the breathtaking blue waters of the Central Pacific beaches and Manuel Antonio National Park. After you reach Manuel Antonio, you will have plenty of time to explore, hike or head to the beautiful white, sand beach and blue water of the Pacific Ocean. (B)

Day 13: Manuel Antonio

Day Itinerary
Today you will have your choice of adventures. Choose between a Kayak tour through the dense Damas Mangroves or a Catamaran Coastline Cruise. Spend the other half of the day playing in the surf at the Manuel Antonio beach. (B)

Day 14: Departure

Day Itinerary
Breakfast at the hotel. Today is the last day of your memorable trip to Costa Rica. You will self-drive back to the Juan Santamaría (SJO) International Airport in San José and drop off your rental car. Your head will be filled with memories of Costa Rica, the charming, genuine “Ticos” you have met, and the indelible experiences you have had along the way. Now you truly know the meaning of Pura Vida! (B)
